The start of this term has seen us finish of a project from last term focussing on classroom furniture. Last term we were given the go ahead in 5-7 to order new furniture. I decided that I could get the students involved and learn lots of Maths skills along the way.

Students learned about measurement, conversions of units of length, multiplication, division, scale, transformations, and mapping. We measured the classroom and worked out suitable scales to draw our models. We then looked up furniture online and made scale drawings of them to fit into the room.

The students found this task very authentic and a submission of furniture has been put forward to the principal based on many of their recommendations. Hopefully we will have a new classroom with 21st century furniture in the not too distant future.
