Day 1 in Canberra

Today was a very full day of learning activities. After breakfast we went to the Australian Mint, where we learnt lots about coins and were introduced to Titan (one of the robots there). Following the Mint, we went to the National Portrait Gallery, which featured many famous Australian protraits. Students and teachers got the opportunity to do a number of drawing activities that each taught us something different about art. Immediately after the National Portrait Gallery, we had an impromptu session at the High Court of Australia with an engaging and entertaining presenter, Cecil. After lunch we headed to the Arboretum. This has been set up in Canberra, following the bushfires here, to promote conservation and establish a range of plant species. The next major activity during the day was a visit to Cockington Green. The students strolled around the beautiful gardens there, searching for quirky and interesting village scenes. We also got to ride on a miniature steam train. The day ended with a night walk over a nearby hill. Mr March discovered at the end of the day he had walked 23,000 steps. We will sleep well tonight.
